9 reasons you're not losing weight...
Sometimes your weight loss seems to grind to a halt, even though you are following a healthy, balanced diet. So why? It could be that you’re ruining your own efforts by falling into one of the common diet traps. Here, we help you discover your weak spot so you can beat it for good!
You blow out at weekends It’s all very well watching what you eat during the week, but bingeing at weekends will undo all your good work. "Limit yourself to one treat a day at the weekend - a fry-up for breakfast, a takeaway or a Sunday roast", says nutrition advisor Laura Williams of Future Perfect personal training. And try fitting in a few additional exercise sessions during the week to make up for the odd weekend blow out.
You binge at night If you’re the type of person who saves calories during the day so you can eat more at night, you're doing yourself more harm than good. "Any kind of starvation period during which the body runs on empty slows the metabolism down", explains Laura. "You're more inclined to overeat when you're really hungry – especially if you've hardly eaten anything all day". If you’ve starved yourself yourself during the day your blood sugar levels will be so low, you’ll be far more likely to binge-eat as soon as you get home”.
You eat on the run Rushing
out of the house without eating breakfast and
then grabbing a coffee and Danish to eat at the
office isn't going to win you any weight
loss medals. "Eating on the run means you're
restricted to whatever’s available",
says Laura. And this is often an unhealthy snack
or takeaway. "Plus your body won't
have the chance to digest the food and you’ll
be in line for a host of health problems, such
as irritable bowel syndrome. Aim to plan in advance
so you don’t get caught out when you’re
slimming".
