Beat workout blowout!

If you find yourself forever making excuses not to go to the gym, play tennis or go to aerobics, then we’re here to motivate you…You’re too stressed, too spotty, too self-conscious…Whatever your excuse for not exercising, there’s nearly always a much better reason why you should put your trainers on anyway. Here are 10 of the most common excuses - and why you should ignore them.

Excuse #2: I’m too tired: OK, how tired are you really? “If you’re genuinely exhausted, going to the gym could be counterproductive and suppress the immune system”, says Laura Williams from Future Perfect personal training. “But if you’re just feeling lethargic, a brisk workout can raise your energy levels and put a spring back in your step”

Excuse #7: It’s raining Heading outside for a run in a torrential downpour may be a little too ‘refreshing’ for even the most hardened athlete – but you can easily tailor your workout to beat the elements. Go to the pool or gym – or keep a standby kit at home. “There’s plenty of fitness equipment you can use in the home”, says Laura Williams from Future Perfect. “Invest in a resistance band and exercise ball for strength training, for example”.

Excuse #10: I’m too stressed Well, exercise is hardly likely to make you more stressed, is it? “Instead of focusing on how listless and rundown you feel, try to recall the positive sensations you felt at the end of your last workout”, says Laura Williams. “We often get a rush of feelgood endorphins after a zealous workout: at the very least, you’ll feel relaxed and virtuous”.
