How to get a perfect body
As a Hollywood star denounces plastic surgery, is there an effective alternative? We’re getting hooked on cosmetic surgery. Last year alone there was an 18 per cent increase in the number of people having procedures, says the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons… In Hollywood, where cosmetic surgery has long been the norm, few stars own up to going under the knife – let alone acknowledge the dangers. But last week, Jamie Lee Curtis admitted: “I attempted various types of plastic surgery to stave off this encroaching middle-aged body, but not one of the procedures turned out the way I thought it would.”… But how do you get the perfect body without surgery? The only answer, of course, is diet and exercise. But targeting the areas you want to improve is vital. We tell you how…
BREASTS
The best exercise: the breast contains no muscle tissue so you can’t reshape it by exercise, but you can work on the pectoral muscles which support it. “Having well-honed pectorals should make your breasts perkier,” says Laura. The best exercise for this is dumbbell flies: lie on your back with your legs bent up and feet flat on the floor (it is very important not to do this with straight legs). Stretch your arms up, level with your breastbone, palms facing each other. Slowly move your arms out in an arc to either side, keeping a slight bend in the elbow, then down towards the floor and back up to the middle. Aim for two sets of 12-15 repetitions using weights that suit your level of ability.
The best diet tip: to maintain good skin elasticity, try swapping saturated fat (ie steaks) for healthy fat such as salmon steaks. “In terms of your waistline, all fats are created equal,” says Laura, “but in terms of your health, there is a big difference between saturated fats and ‘good’ fats, such as the essential fatty acids found in oily fish.”
