Myth of the Month
'Muscle turns to fat if you stop exercising.'
The Facts: "People ask me about this all the time," says personal trainer Laura Williams, "but muscle and fat are two entirely different types of body tissue, so it's impossible to turn one into the other. The increased muscle mass you get from exercise is up to nine times more efficient at burning calories than fat tissue and, unless you reduce your calorie intake when reducing the frequency of your workouts, you're likely to gain weight in the form of fat and lose the muscle you gained from exercise."
